i am currently enrolled in the cas habitat for humanity. we have held a fund raiser which was a primary movie night. this proved to be extremely successful we gained a total of 180 dollars which approximates to about 18,000 rupees.
now we have made collective choice to direct the money to a real cause, which is to help a blind family build a home for themselves. the reason this family is at such a disadvantage is that because the mother has a genetic disease which cause permanent blindness over a long term period, since the disease is heredity it can be passed down. all three children of the family have shown signs of the disease. the husband/ father has a heart condition so he cannot exert himself or he may suffers from heart problems. so we have decided to focus on generating funds for this particular family, and build their home for them.

so far io have been on one build which was to this particular blind family when we arrived on site the foundation had been layed out already and we were able to pacth up the foundation with a our group of 4 and and teh help of a few habitat workers and the father of the family who helped us every chance he coul. now we are try to get the money to build the walls for the house and any additional things need for the house. we will be going on a build to the same site where we will hopefully be able to do some significant work

when we had arrived on site alot had changed for the better it had been almost a month since we had last been there and the walls were built and finished, and the wooden frame for the roof of the house had been finished. which gave us the chance to do some hands on work to to roof the house which involved us actually getting on the the hollow wooden frames and placing the roof tiles individually on the roof. it was new to us all and it was exciting but back aching work. we were able to successfully finish the roof in time. we were reward with some milk rice and tea from the neighbors. the next feet to conquer was to fill up as many rooms and as much of it with sand that was piled out side the house. so we got shovels and dug away at the until there was no more. we filled up one room and was to fill up a quarter of the second room. After a days work we said our goodbyes and left for school.

this last build was very recent and we had a lot more people come this time round. It was a chance for us to split up as a group and work with people we normally wouldnt work with. in my group we were creating a wall around teh house we finished up there and then went and joined the group work on the house which was replacing the floor. it was a unique and different to what we have been  doing in the last couple of builds. we were working with cement which we had to practice to get the hang of it. we had to mix the cement and carry it to the house where we would then spread it on the floor.

post 5
we agian got the chance to work hands on with cement  and this time we did not waste anytime we work hard and effciently mainly beacause we knew what we were doing. when took a break the owners of the house would bring us some tea and milk rice with sambol which an interesting meal one that we get  offered no matter where we are building its almost like a unversal breakfast in sri lanka, it was only in this build that i realized this. going on builds is not only about the hard labour but its alos about making connections to the community outside of school and what better way than coming face to face with the hardships and culture the comunityies are faced with on a daily basis. i really gained perspective of the world within the world we live in the side that most of us hardly get to see.

I recently came back from a two day build down in galle which was a new experience in that i had never before been on such a build and i guess i just enjoyed it. not the first we went to the build sit in which most of the work that we did was a little bit easier than what we usually do however when something that i have learned in habitat is that when its easy work its a lot of work which eventually exhausts you.

Action page

saisa
before the school year began i made a decision to try out for the swim team. i achieved this goal after weeks of training. i recently got back from the actual SAISA swim meet and i have to say it was a good experience. i learned a lot about teamwork and personal excellence. SAISA refer es to the action side of C.A.S, i achieved most of my personal goals that i set for myself over the swim meet such as improving my overall individual timings. which i achieved i was able to take off a couple seconds on all my events. in the team work aspect i learned swimming is maybe done individually but there overall score made by a team and that was a motivating factor when i was swimming my individual events.

scuba
i am currently enrolled in scuba diving after school activity that the school is offering. i have learned so about safety precautions and how to read a depth chart ones must take during a dive. so far we haven't done any equipment based activity but hopefully in the up and coming classes we will be able to do some training in the pool before and open water dives. its quite exciting so far as i have not been on a dive before so I'm looking forward to the day that i can go on an open water dive.

Saturday community football
this is also and extra curricular activity that i am involved in on the weekend its a lot of fun, and i get to meet new people from different schools and of different ages. at the same time i am also learning about teamwork and cooperation. its also helping me develop my fitness and improve my football skills.

exdtended essay research
i have reccently been introd uced the extended essay and inorder to create a good essay supported by rlavent data i decided to use my newly recieved padi divers license to go on a trip to see how what the conditions of the coral reefs of hikkaduwa in sri lianka are. it was helpfull to get a hands on perspective as to the mainly environmental facotros contrributing to the deterioration of the coral reefs.

CAS 1.1.1

I have just returned from our IB orientation trip. From it i have learned many things about IB that is very relevant to me as a student. Such as in the outdoor adventure aspect of our trip such as team building skills, trust and to keep pushing myself to the best of my ability. I also have a better appreciation for CAS as i have learned that it plays a huge role in my acceptance to the university of my choice. If i can show the universities the i can be the type of student that is motivated, excited for learning and has the ability to make things happen, it would help me if my final grades arn't to standard. universities will under certain circumstance look over your grades and look at you as and individual and then they will decide whether or not you fit their criteria. this is the main thing that i took from our group sessions during our trip i found that it was very relevent and an important thing to keep in mind but at teh same time i should strive for personal acdemic excellence.
