www- week without walls 2012- class of 2013

this years week without walls was situated around the community and service aspect instead of any outdoor activities this was i still would have enjoyed the outdoor activities.

day 1-
although this year it gave me a chance to do alot more service which helped me gain better understanding for the cultural environment out side comlombo and our school. we spilt up our grade into two different schools we had probabaly the most work to do given the state of the playgroud. our goal on the first day was to get into our individual groups of which we had specific tasks like maintenence, painting and games.

day 2 -
we began work almost instantly on thsi day ,mainly because we didnt have alot of time and teh work we need to do was back breaking but worth teh time and effort. we began landscaping by clearing then rocks and weeding teh long grass. we took apart any rotten wood from the old playground structure.

day 3-
on this day we had finished the landscaping created  a tire playground which was designed to stimulate movement in children and gain better awwarness of their motor functions and surroundings. we completeley restored a broken tree house with freshly cut stirdy wood. the other groups taht were in charge of the murals and painting of teh walls also completed there work so overall we achieved what we came there to do. in the end of our time at teh school we put on a collaborative performance for teh parents teachers and students who also took part offereing there own prepared performance.

day 4-
this was our day of if you will we spent a lot of our time reflecting the past events interms of the school we helped restore. but we also got to go on a safari in the tyala national park. it was an adventure but on that lacked exciting wildlife. teh higlght of the trip was reach a beach that had been struck by the tsunami in 2004 there was a japonese memorial paying tribute to their fellow citizens. it was beautifull beach one that i probably would have never seen if it wasnt for the trip.

day 5-
we had breakfast and headead back to school from hambantota to colombo whcih was a good 5 hours or so. which gave us some much needed  sleep and reflective time.
